Background: Most often the transport of people or goods requires more than one mode of transportation to get from a starting location to final destination. This is referred to as intermodal transportation and it is much more common than you might think. Consider a plane flight. The plane may be your primary source of travel over distance, but you may have used a car or train or some combination to get to and from the airport.
