Welcome Students and Faculty,

I want to start by thanking everyone for attending this year’s conference. TEECA East is a great event because it is the coming together of students who one day plan to make a difference as educators and leaders. Students are able to connect with students in similar programs around the country and build relationships with other students at their own university. In addition, students have networking opportunities and are able to develop professional skills in ways not offered through regular coursework. The competitions, awards, and the conference itself are not worth anything without the people that take time to create such a wonderful event. Please take advantage of all that TEECA has to offer and know your presence is appreciated. Be smart, be safe, and enjoy the conference.

Sun: 4:00 PM – 5:45 PM | Conference Event: Registration

A representative from each university and their advisor must check in at the registration table. Name tags will be distributed during this time. Universities arriving late should find someone from SUNY Oswego.

NOTES

  • Name tags must be worn at all times. If you lose your name tag, blank copies will be with the hotel desk.
  • Dinner is on your own, and make sure to be back for the Technology Challenge on time.

    Sun: 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM | Technology Challenge

    All schools will participate. There will be an expanded double-elimination format. All conference participants are expected to be present through the finals and stay for the team building workshop.

    Sun: 9:00 PM – 11:00 PM | Conference Event: Team Building Workshop

    In this fun and interactive workshop you will learn a series of activities you can easily lead in your own classroom. These same activities are used by classroom teachers around the US to teach team and leadership skills to middle and high school students. If you intend to have your students working in teams then you will want to teach your students how to work successfully together. Not only will you experience the games yourself, you will also learn tips for debriefing the activities so your students get the most from the experience.

    Sun: 11:00 PM – 11:15 PM | Conference Event: Coordinator Updates

    Any coordinator needing to give an update to participating teams will be allowed to meet with them. This will take place directly following the team building workshop.

    The Transportation Challenge Coordinator will meet with teams to collect portfolios and for teams to sign up for testing times the following day. This will take place directly following the teambuilding workshop.

    All contest teams must report to their appropriate session.

    All contest teams must report to their appropriate session.

    Mon: 8:00 AM – 8:30 AM | Robotics: Orientation

    All teams must report with their robot designs and equipment.

    Mon: 8:30 AM – 10:15 AM | Robotics: Tournament

    Teams will compete in a classic (or innovative) VEX VRC tournament: 2 on 2 alliances!

    Mon: 8:30 AM – 9:00 AM | Transportation: Range Set-up

    The coordinators and judges will prepare the beach area for testing.

    Mon: 9:00 AM – 9:30 AM | Poster Session: Orientation

    Poster teams must report for orientation, poster setup, and presentation time assignments.

    Mon: 9:00 AM – 9:30 AM | Teaching Lesson: Turn in Lesson

    All teams must be present to receive their lesson delivery time and submit their lesson materials.

    NOTES

  • Submit 3 copies of your lesson plan and any support materials (e.g., worksheets, handouts, etc).
  • These will be available for use during your lesson delivery but must be left afterwards.

    All contest teams must report to this session with required tools. Orientation starts at 9:30.

    Mon: 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM | Problem Solving: Fabrication

    All Problem Solving teams must report with their completed planning/design paperwork. The hands on part of the contest begins.

    Mon: 10:15 AM – 10:45 AM | Robotics: Skills Challenge

    Teams will take turns at autonomous and driver skills challenges: 60 seconds each! Score as many points as you can.

    Mon: 10:45 AM – 11:00 AM | Robotics: Obstacle Course Announced

    Teams will find out what the obstacle course looks like. Then have a few hours to modify their robots and test them on the obstacle course.

    Mon: 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM | Conference Event: Career Fair

    From first-year students to graduate students will want to attend this event to learn about different employment opportunities. The schedule for Monday has been adjusted to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to attend the Career Fair in the Chesapeake rooms. There will be a conference break between 11 AM and 1 PM to allow everyone to have lunch and attend the Career Fair. Please bring your resumes and remember to dress professionally so that you can interact with and impress the school systems who will be represented. The Career Fair will occur from 11 AM – 2 PM to allow as many students as possible to attend.

    Mon: 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM | Conference Event: Advisors Meeting

    All TEECA advisors, faculty, and judges will meet to plan for the 2015 Conference. A buffet lunch will be provided.

    Mon: 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM | Manufacturing: Set up

    All Manufacturing Contest teams must report to this session.

    Mon: 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM | Poster Session: Presentations

    Teams must report for their assigned presentation time during this time block. Report at least five minutes early and wait outside of the room until called to enter.

    Mon: 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM | Robotics: Team Interviews

    Teams will have interviews with the judges.

    Mon: 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM | Teaching Lesson: Presentations

    Teams must report for their assigned lesson delivery (presentation) time during this time block. Report at least five minutes early and wait outside of the room until called to enter.

    Mon: 3:30 PM – 4:00 PM | Manufacturing: Folders Due

    Turn folders in between these times; after the end time, they are considered late.

    Mon: 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM | Robotics: Obstacle Course Tests

    Teams will take turns on the obstacle course.

    Mon: 4:00 PM – 4:30 PM | Transportation: Range Tear-down

    The coordinators and judges will return the beach to its original condition.

    Mon: 4:30 PM – 5:00 PM | Instructional Module: Submit Required Items

    Turn in required items. Location will be announced during the orientation. After the end time, they are considered late.

    Mon: 5:00 PM – 5:30 PM | Communications: Production Deliverables

    Bring the MP4 and download the latest version of final production notes. Bring these on an external drive. After the end time, they are considered late.

    Mon: 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM | Conference Event: View Work

    All conference participants are invited to view design work which will be on display. Contest coordinators will assign tables in Sunset A & B for teams/individuals to display challenge materials.

    Mon: 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM | Conference Event: Banquet

    This is a tradition at TEECA EAST. Student and faculty dress up for the formal banquet. Men typically wear shirts and ties while women select professional top with slacks, skirts or dresses. Our keynote speaker will have an inspirational message for aspiring young professionals.

    KEYNOTE TITLE: Hacking STEM Education

    KEYNOTE DESCRIPTION: You’ll soon be out in the world working as a teacher of technology and engineering. The young people in your care are going to depend on you to prepare them for a world that is rapidly changing. What if there was a way to future proof the education your students received? What if there was a way for you to prepare your students to excel in a rapidly changing environment? If you could do this, your value as a teacher would increase exponentially. In this presentation we will explore, in practical terms, two specific strategies you can employ with your students to future proof their education while simultaneously engage them at a deep and profound level.

    All conference participants are encouraged to attend this exciting event.

    Team critique time and production demonstrations to other teams.

    Tue: 8:30 AM – 10:00 AM | Conference Event: View Work

    All conference participants are expected to participate in the presentation of completed work. All challenge materials will be on display and participants will be available to explain their results.

    Tue: 9:15 AM – 10:00 AM | Problem Solving: Performance

    Performance trials will take place based on this year’s challenge.

    Chapters should take care of checkout items prior to the start of the Awards Luncheon.

    Another TEECA EAST tradition is the awards luncheon on Tuesday. All winners will be announced and plaques awarded. All communication contest videos will be shown. The luncheon will be from 10:30 AM to noon, allowing our more distant schools to head home during the daylight hours.
